Waitrose is a client I have worked with for 5 years maintaining the legacy site, working on campaign sites such as Waitrose Chrstmas (2006). So I was pleased to be the lead designer for the redevelopment of their massive .com website. This is one of the largest projects I have worked on to date, totalling over 8000 pages of content, with many complicated legacy issues of migrating the technologies, infrastructure, and all of the old content, into a new design where new content is put at the forefront, with easy access to the older material.
The budget constraints meant a traditional CMS for a site of this magnitude would cost too much, so the solution involved setting up a dedicated team to maintain the site going forward, and create a system of design templates that could be used to house all conceivable content types, providing the maintenance team with the materials to generate a bespoke page design for all new content added.
The process of designing on this scale over an extended period of time was what I enjoyed the most with this project, enabling a truly organic, collaborative and developed design system to mature into it’s final solution. A small selection of design templates displayed below.

We aso created a video sent internally around the John Lewis Partnership and press to provide an overview of the new features and variety of content in the new site.
