Ulster Bank (previously part of NatWest) had under gone a rebrand and repositioning as a result of its integration into the RBS group. It was to fall inline with the business structure and information architecture ideas that were being applied across the group. We were asked to implement the rebrand across the online platform.

The new resolute RBS brand architecture was quite restrictive in terms of design freedom, but I was able to exercise my creativity in other areas of this project.

I decided to implement a flexible site design that would meet the requirements of the audience using 800x600 resolutions but also allow for expansion in other views. I had to control the effects of these changes across different sizes, and I worked with the CMS template developers to come up with an approach that would minimise maintenance requirements.

The final design looks good at different screen sizes, and achieved WAI level AA accessibility compliance.

We also introduced some experimental navigation methods (for a bank) that proved to be very effective in displaying the full-range of services available in an HTML interactive layer, pulling the key services out into the primary navigation bar.
